TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – An Apache and a Black Hawk helicopter attracted crowds of onlookers as they landed inside the National Central University campus Wednesday.
The event was part of a science expo for elementary and high school pupils hosted by the college in Taoyuan, per UDN. The AH-64E Apache attack helicopter and the UH-60M Black Hawk were sent by the Army’s 601 Aviation Brigade based in the city’s Longtan District.
The Apache was equipped with laser-guided AGM-114 Hellfire missiles, 2.75-inch rocket pods, and air-launched Stinger missiles, the report said. After the helicopters landed on an athletics field, students and parents crowded around, while Army officers were available to answer questions.
The helicopters had been scheduled to stay at the university until 3 p.m., but because weather forecasts predicted afternoon thundershowers near the Longtan base, they left early at 11 a.m., the military said. From 10:30 a.m., officers started preparatory work ahead of takeoff, drawing close attention from the public, UDN reported.
