National Central University (NCU) achieved outstanding results at the 2026 Taiwan InnoTech Expo Invention Competition, with 18 patented technologies receiving awards, including 3 Platinum Awards, 3 Corporate Special Awards, 6 Gold Awards, 3 Silver Awards, and 5 Bronze Awards. NCU also received the Foxconn and Delta Electronics Corporate Special Awards, marking one of the university’s strongest performances in recent years.
The award-winning technologies span semiconductors, information technology, energy, optoelectronics, mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, and space technology. Among the highlights, Professor Loren Cheewei Chang of the Department of Space Science and Engineering received a Platinum Award, the Foxconn Corporate Special Award, and the Delta Electronics Corporate Special Award for his Radiation Sensor for Deep-Space Environments, demonstrating NCU’s capabilities in advanced sensing and deep-space exploration.
NCU also received multiple awards for innovations in AI, smart technologies, biomedical applications, energy, and optoelectronics. Notably, the Disease Comorbidity Prediction Model developed by Professor Li-Jen Su received the Foxconn Corporate Special Award, while the Neural Rehabilitation System and Method received a Platinum Award, highlighting NCU’s interdisciplinary integration of information technology, AI, and biomedical engineering.
In advanced manufacturing and semiconductor technologies, Professor Benjamin Tien-Hsi Lee received a Platinum Award for an Electromagnetic-Wave-Assisted Polishing Device and Method. Other recognized technologies addressed semiconductor processing, precision machining, smart power systems, measurement technologies, and optoelectronic devices.
NCU emphasizes that translating academic research into industrial applications requires not only sustained faculty research but also effective intellectual property management, technology validation, industry–academia collaboration, and technology transfer mechanisms. The 18 awarded technologies demonstrate NCU’s continued commitment to advancing the innovation pathway from research and development → IP development → technology transfer → industrial application, strengthening the university’s role in research commercialization.
