7-ELEVEN’s newest generation of next-generation smart stores, “X-STORE 9,” has officially opened at National Central University (NCU). Launched on November 17 inside the Dorm 14 commercial area, the store drew crowds of students eager to experience the future of retail. Without scanning barcodes or waiting in line, shoppers can complete their purchases in as little as 30 seconds.
“X-STORE 9” adopts a hybrid AI vision-tracking system developed by the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI). Equipped with more than 140 hybrid cameras and LiDAR sensors, the system accurately detects customer movement and product-picking actions. When a shopper leaves the store, payment is automatically processed, creating a seamless and efficient shopping experience.
To meet student needs, the store stocks over 6,000 items, making it the most comprehensive X-STORE to date. It offers snacks, stationery, and daily necessities, and for the first time supports hanging-rack displays, bringing the shopping experience even closer to that of a standard 7-ELEVEN.
Another highlight of X-STORE 9 is the nation’s first automated parcel-pickup micro-warehouse. Supported by a program from the Ministry of Economic Affairs’ Department of Commerce, ITRI integrated AI and IoT technologies to build a new warehouse model. Inside the micro-warehouse are adjustable storage compartments paired with a dual-axis robotic arm, which stores and retrieves packages in an average of 20 seconds per item—more than 50% faster than conventional manual processing.
