National Central University (NCU) President Shu-San Hsiau led a senior administrative delegation to Vietnam in October, aiming to strengthen academic partnerships and further deepen the university’s regional engagement. During this inspiring journey, NCU hosted its first-ever Vietnam alumni reunion in Ho Chi Minh City and proudly inaugurated the NCU Vietnam Alumni Association. This milestone not only expands NCU’s presence in Southeast Asia but also celebrates the remarkable growth and vitality of its alumni community in Vietnam.
Since welcoming its first cohort of international students, NCU has proudly graduated more than 3,000 foreign alumni—including approximately 170 from Vietnam—who now play influential roles across education, technology, and industry. Among them is this year’s Outstanding Alumnus honoree, Dr. Nguyen Huy Bich, the first international graduate to receive this prestigious recognition. Dr. Bich’s longstanding dedication to education and research has made a lasting impact on both Vietnam and his alma mater, making him a shining example of the spirit and excellence of NCU’s Vietnamese alumni.
The delegation’s visit also aligned with NCU’s global recruitment and collaboration strategy. The delegation met with several leading Vietnamese universities to explore faculty exchanges, deepen research partnerships, and inspire outstanding lecturers and promising students to pursue graduate studies in Taiwan. These efforts aim to strengthen academic cooperation, expand research collaboration, and reinforce NCU’s Southbound recruitment initiatives.
The inaugural alumni association gathering brought together a warm and enthusiastic group of Vietnamese graduates, many of whom now serve in higher education and multinational industries. President Hsiau shared NCU’s recent developments and expressed appreciation for the alumni’s continued support. The assembly elected Dr. Nguyen Huy Bich as the association’s first president, with Dr. Nguyen Tran Phu, Dr. Le Thanh Long, and Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha appointed as vice presidents. Together, they will promote alumni engagement across Vietnam and build a stronger bridge for academic and industrial collaboration between NCU and Southeast Asia.
