National Central University (NCU) held the NCU Alumni New Year Greetings of 2017 after the Chinese New Year. Mayor of Taoyuan City Cheng Wen-tsan and several legislators, who are NCU alumni, joined to celebrate. In the opening speech, NCU president Dr. Jou Jing-yang announced that NCU is going to host the National Intercollegiate Athletic Games of 2018. The breaking news excited all students, faculty as well as alumni—near 900 guests—at the party! “NCU has kept thriving in academics and research. The College of Health Sciences & Technology, newly established in 2014, organized a cross-university team and participated in Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE, a global medical competition. Our team advanced to the final phase contending for the world championship and amazed everyone with innovative ideas. Moreover, NCU is going to organize National Intercollegiate Athletic Games (NIAG) of 2018. This is the second time that NCU hosts national athletic games in 30 years; which bears great significance to NCU,” said Dr. Jou Jing-yang. “The NIAG of 2018 is a large-scale sports event lasting for five days. It is estimated that there will be about 14,000 athletes participating the event, and there will be at least 20 sports disciplines. In recent years, NCU students have excellent performance in many national sports games such as track and field contests, basketball, and volleyball. We also anticipate that our alumni and enterprises may support NCU as well as our promising athletes, providing a better environment for potential athletes,” said Dr. Chen Jenn-dar, Director of the Office of Physical Education at NCU. In the New Year Greeting party, student clubs performed in turns, showing their passion and energy. The party was extremely lively and there was ceaseless applause. After the party, many alumni strolled together with their family on campus, reminiscing their good old days at NCU!
