The School of Management at National Central University (NCU) celebrated its 40th anniversary on September 27 with the inauguration of the “Professor Schive Chi Distinguished Lectureship” and the unveiling ceremony of an artwork donated by Academician Wing-Huen Ip, marking the beginning of a series of commemorative events. The establishment of the Distinguished Lectureship honors Prof. Schive, Chi, the founding dean of the School, for his long-standing dedication to education and his outstanding contributions to economic policy and institutional design. Prof. Schive also support the School’s sustainable development fund, passing on Adam Smith’s philosophy of pursuing the ultimate form of happiness—“In Ease of Body and Peace of Mind.”
Academician Ip, renowned for both his distinguished academic achievements and artistic talent, has long supported science education and the revitalization of NCU through charity art sales. His donated painting depicts the final scene from Chi Po-Lin’s “Beyond Beauty: Taiwan from Above,” portraying a figure singing a traditional clap song atop Yushan. The artwork encourages faculty and students of the School to pursue truth in scholarship, draw wisdom from the past, and illuminate the future with the spirit of innovation embodied in NCU’s motto of sincerity and simplicity.
NCU President Hsiau Shu-San remarked that the celebration not only honors the dedication and remarkable accomplishments of outstanding faculty members but also expresses sincere appreciation to retired honorary professors and to all donors who have generously supported academic education.
The celebration invited alumni from all departments to return to their alma mater for lectures, interactive activities, and special guided tours. Alumni, faculty, and students visited the newly renovated K.T. Li Memorial Museum, restored by the Delta Electronics Foundation, as well as Taiwan’s first Kunqu Opera Museum on campus. The School hopes these experiences will inspire the NCU community to reflect on past achievements while envisioning and creating new and vibrant chapters for the future.
