At the invitation of the Ministry of Education, a Texas A&M University System (TAMUS) delegation of three people led by Vice Chancellor Joe Elabd visited National Central University (NCU) on September 18 as their first stop in Taiwan. NCU Vice President Chyi Jen-Inn extended a warm welcome, and Professor Loren Chang, Chair of the Department of Space Science and Engineering, showcased NCU’s key strengths in space technology research, with hopes of establishing future collaborations.
TAMUS is engaging in a space science partnership with the University Academic Alliance in Taiwan (UAAT), focusing on biomedical experiments, artificial intelligence applied to satellite remote sensing and space situational awareness, radiation-resistant electronics, and propulsion systems. NCU’s planned areas for collaboration include small satellite applications in low Earth orbit, advanced Ka-band communications beyond 5G, satellite IoT platforms, and self-sufficiency in small satellite development and utilization. Through involvement in missions and partnerships with organizations such as the International Satellite Program in Research and Education (INSPIRE), the Committee on Space Research (COSPAR) Task Group on Establishing a Constellation of Small Satellites (TGCSS), NCU aims to provide students with international internship opportunities and raise Taiwan’s international profile in the space sector.
