To empower young people with global perspectives and align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), National Central University (NCU) Service Learning Development Center led an international volunteer team to Nepal this summer for nine days of volunteer medical treatment services (medical outreach services) and health education services. This initiative aimed to fulfill the responsibilities of global citizenship and contribute to the well-being of local residents through health education and support.

The volunteer team comprised students from diverse academic backgrounds who brought unique skills to the project, showcasing a strong collaborative spirit. NCU provided months of pre-departure training, including workshops on knowledge and skills for overseas volunteering, cross-cultural service and risk management, Nepalese culture and etiquette, and organizational dynamics of international service teams. The training also involved multiple revisions and discussions regarding the teaching materials for the volunteer service.

The team prepared posters and teaching materials on mental health awareness and led learning activities for local school children and teenagers, with learning topics covering self-emotional care, family communication, and interpersonal emotional expression. They expected to help those children and teenagers learn positive emotional expression and foster healthy family and social interactions during their growth and education.

The international volunteer project, through volunteer medical treatment services (medical outreach services)  and health education services, enabled student volunteers to engage deeply with local residents, gain meaningful cross-cultural experience, and embody the spirit of service learning by combining sustainable development and health initiatives through meaningful actions. NCU will keep planning international service learning activities to continue fostering a spirit of altruism and international perspective among young students and to cultivate talents dedicated to global contribution.
