The "2024 Chinese Language & Culture Immersion in Taiwan," organized by the Office of International Affairs at National Central University, held an engaging calligraphy class on July 3rd. Under the meticulous guidance of Professor Huei-Wen Chang, international students explored the beauty of Chinese characters and created unique works of their own. Amid the summer heat, the program provided both an opportunity for inner calm and an immersive experience in the charm of Chinese culture.
The international students in the workshop came from countries including the United States, Japan, South Korea, Lithuania, and Vietnam. They learned the basic knowledge of calligraphy, including its history, the use of the four essential tools, distinctive script styles, and fundamental writing techniques.
Along with the calligraphy class, Professor Ming-Yi Li from the Language Center conducted Chinese language lessons, inspiring students’ interest in the language through cultural introduction while enhancing their proficiency and understanding of Chinese culture. Students also explored Taiwan’s unique landscapes and local customs, through visits to the Pier-2 Art Center in Kaohsiung, the Railway Roundhouse in Changhua, the Hou-Fong Bikeway in Taichung, and the Taiwan Hakka Cultural Center in Miaoli, leaving them with lasting memories.
